Actually Subbuteo:"10 For You" with Dimitris Dimopoulos!

Hello Flickers! We are back with our interviews! Today we finally bring you to Greece getting in touch with a young bright guy! Let's discover who is Dimitris:

Dimitris knows a thing or two about CDT!

1) Who are you, what do you do, where are you from and how's your life related to Subbuteo?

My name is Dimitris Dimopoulos, I'm 18 years old,I currently study Pastry and I play subbuteo from the age of 6 with a break from the age of 13 till the age of 16.I live in Greece and I try to train 4 times a week because I play in most greek individual tournaments and some international individual/team events with my current team Bormla (Malta) so I try to keep my form and get better to help my team and myself achieve more.

1)Chi Sei, cosa fai e perche' la tua vita e' correlata al Subbuteo ?

Mi chiamo Dimitris Dimopoulos. Ho 18 anni e studio Pasticceria. Gioco a Subbuteo da quando avevo 6 anni con un piccolo stop dai 13 ai 16 anni. Vivo in Grecia and cerco di allenarmi 4 volte a settimana perche' gioco nei tornei individuali della Grecia ma anche internazionali (singolo ed in team) con la mia squadra attuale BORMLA(Malta). Cerco dunque di mantenermi in forma e migliorare per aiutare la mia squadra e me stesso a raggiungere nuovi traguardi.

2) What's your first memory about Subbuteo ? (your first time)

My first memory from subbuteo is my first tournament I attended in U-12 category at the age of 6(2006).I only remember getting 2nd place.

2)Qual e' il tuo primo ricordo del Subbuteo ? (La tua prima volta)

Il mio primo ricordo Subbuteo e' il primo torneo a cui ho partecipato nella categoria U-12 quando avevo 6 anni (2006). Mi ricordo solo di essere arrivato secondo.

3) We know you are a Table Soccer (CDT) player. Do you also like the Old Subbuteo? explain what's good or wrong with it.

Even though I'm a CDT player I've tried old subbuteo and I can say I liked some things like the realistic goalkeepers and the feel that everyone plays with the same weapon (base) as you do. Though i would never change from CDT to subbuteo because it doesn't feel as competitive as CDT feels.

3)Sappiamo che sei un giocatore CDT. Ti piace anche il Subbuteo Old?Spiegaci cosa ha di buono o meno.

Anche se sono un giocatore CDT ho provato il Subbuteo Old e posso dire che ci sono alcune cose che mi sono piaciute come i portieri realistici in aggiunta alla sensazione che tutti giocano con le stesse armi (basi). Comunque non cambierei mai il CDT con l'Old Subbuteo perche' non lo sento tanto competitivo come lo e' il CDT.

4) What do you think about FISTF and WASPA circuits? Are you part of them ? Did you ever won any prize in official tournaments?If Yes, which ones? 

The only thing I have to say about FISTF is they should try to promote the game more.Now about individual tournaments  I've won the Greek Cup (open category) this season(2018-2019) and I've won 4 times the Greek Championship in all Under categories (two in U-12 one in U-15 and one in U-19). I also have some Major Tournament wins in the under categories,Athens 2018 and San Benedetto 2017 are some of them.

About team tournaments this season(2018-2019)me and my team Bormla came 2nd in the Europa League losing to Bologna Tigers in the Final, also I have a 3rd place with Greek national team in the 2009 World Cup (U-12).

4)Cosa ne pensi dei circuiti come FISTF and WASPA? Ne fai parte? Hai mai vinto qualche competizione ufficiale?Se Si,quale?

L'unica cosa che ho da dire riguardo il FISTF e' che dovrebbero promuovere il gioco un po' di piu'. Parlando dei tornei individuali ho vinto la Greek Cup(Categoria Open)2018-2019 ed ho vinto 4 volte il Greek Championship in tutte le categorie Under (due volte nell'U-12,una nell'U-15 ed una nell'U-19). Ho anche qualche vittoria nel Major Tournament nelle categorie Under,Atene 2018 e San Benedetto 2017, sono tra queste.

5) Tell us something about your Subbuteo life.

 I only want to thank some(subbuteo) people for believing in me or training with me or both.

Dimopoulos P. (My father) he is the one I've learnt the most and the one that keeps pushing me to play better and better every tournament.

Koutroumanos L. Could say he is like a father to me he believes in me and I've played in his club (Piraeus Lions) for 10 years Once a Lion always a Lion.

Di Maggio A. 1st of all Great Friend , great player, and the one i train the most lately.its always a pleasure to play with him.

I'll just say some names i want to thank because if I had to write for every single one of them it would take me an eternity.

5)Di qualcosa sulla tua vita Subbuteo.

Vorrei solo ringraziare alcune persone per aver creduto in me o per avermi allenato. Mio padre Dimopoulos P.: Lui e'quello da cui ho imparato di piu' ed e' inoltre colui che continua a spronarmi nel giocare sempre meglio in ogni torneo.

Koutroumanos L.: Potrei dire che e' come un padre per me e che crede in me. Ho giocato nel suo club Piraeus Lions per 10 anni. Una volta che sei stato un Leone lo sarai per sempre.

Di Maggio A.: Il primo di tutti i grandi amici, forte giocatore, e colui con cui mi alleno di piu' recentemente. E' sempre un piacere giocare con lui.

6) What's your favourite team ?

My favourite team in Greece is Panathinaikos and Kalamata (3rd division) outside of Greece I support Napoli (Forza Napoli Sempre)

6)Qual e' la tua squadra preferita ?

La mia squadra preferita in Grecia e' il Panathinaikos ed anche il Kalamata (militante nella Terza Divisione). Al di fuori della Grecia tifo per il Napoli (#ForzaNapoliSempre)

7)What do you think about the future of CDT?

I believe that without promotion subbuteo (old and cdt) will die. At sometime all players have to stop and right now especially in Greece but I believe most countries have the same problem.Problem is there aren't many kids playing subbuteo because they prefer to stay inside and play on their preferred console so you have to find a way to attract them into playing subbuteo so you can have at least a continuation of our hobby.

Subbuteo is just a hobby right now and for me it should become a sport . Chess is not better or harder than subbuteo but its easier to get in every home since its small and easier to learn.Maybe Fistf should try to find a way making a 5v5 subbuteo board that's small and has some easy rules to attract people into playing our favourite game so we become more players and you never know maybe one day it can become a sport...

7)Cosa pensi del futuro del Calcio Da Tavolo(CDT)?

Credo che senza promozione il Subbuteo e CDT moriranno. Ad un certo punto tutti i giocatori devono fermarsi specialmente in Grecia adesso anche se credo che lo stesso problema appartenga anche ad altri nazioni. Il vero problema e' che non ci sono molti ragazzi che giocano a Subbuteo in quanto preferiscono stare in casa a giocare con la loro console dunque bisognerebbe trovare un modo di attrarli verso il Subbuteo cosi' da continuare la tradizione di questo hobby.

Subbuteo e' solo un hobby al momento ma secondo me dovrebbe diventare uno sport. Gli Scacchi non sono meglio o piu' difficili del Subbuteo ma e' piu' facile da far entrare in ogni casa date le dimensioni ridotte e la facilita' nell'impararlo. Forse il FISTF dovrebbe cercare di trovare un modo di introdurre il Subbuteo 5 contro 5, cosi' da renderlo piccolo e con poche regole facili per attrarre piu' persone nel prender parte al nostro gioco preferito. Cosi' facendo ci saranno piu' giocatori e chissa' se un giorno diventera' davvero uno sport..

8) Do you remember the name of your toughest Opponent ? and why was he so hard to play against ? 

my father 🤣🤣

Toughest international player:

Flores C. Lost 6-2 or 7-2 in just one half in the Major of Rochefort.He has amazing defensive moves and in the attack sometimes it feels like you can't mark him also he has a killer shot,probably the best player of all time.

Toughest Greek player:

Hatzaras S. It's like I can't beat him, I've come close quite sometimes but I always lose, even after Sudden death or with a humiliating score (6-3). I Have 3 loses and 1 draw/lose in the sudden death with him amazing player amazing guy.

8)Ti ricordi il nome del tuo avversario piu' duro? E perche' e' stato cosi' difficile giocarci contro?

Mio padre!

Il piu' tosto giocatore Internazionale:

Flores C. Ho perso 6-2 o 7-2 in un solo tempo durante il Major di Rochefort. Ha incredibili tecniche difensive e quando attacca sembra che sia immarcabile. Possiede inoltre un tiro infallibile. Probabilmente il migliore giocatore di tutti i tempi.

Il piu' tosto giocatore in Grecia:

Hatzaras S. Non riesco a batterlo anche se ci sono arrivato vicino in alcune occasioni ma perdo sempre alla fine. Anche dopo il golden goal o con sconfitte umilianti tipo 6-3. Ho 3 sconfitte ed un pareggio contro di lui. Un grandissimo giocatore ed una bravissima persona.

Where do you see yourself in 5 year from now (subbuteo)?

I always like to think positive I hope that I get better and better every year and win more tournaments. I hope i also win a Greek Individual Championship (Open Category) and maybe I can win a world cup (open category)and be the 2nd Greek player to have won it after 1990.

This year my target is the European Cup (U-19)in June, See you there.

10)Fatti una domanda e dacci una risposta!

Come ti vedi da qui a 5 anni (Subbuteisticamente parlando)?

Mi piace sempre pensare positivo e spero di migliorare sempre di piu' anno dopo anno ed inoltre vincere piu' tornei. Spero di vincere un Greek Individual Championship (Categoria Open) e forse posso anche vincere un Mondiale (Categoria Open) ed essere il secondo giocatore greco a vincerlo dopo il 1990. Quest'anno il mio obiettivo e' l'European Cup U-19 a giugno! Ci vediamo li!
