Actually Subbuteo:"10 For You" with Alessandro Lupi from SUBBUTEO CLUB FONTE NUOVA!!!

1)Chi Sei, cosa fai e perche' la tua vita e' correlata al Subbuteo?

Sono Alessandro Lupi, ho 45 anni, di mestiere faccio il geometra a Roma e sono il Direttore Tecnico del Subbuteo Club Fonte Nuova.

La mia vita è legata al Subbuteo sin da bambino, negli anni ’80. Dopo aver giocato anche a livello nazionale nell’allora A.I.C.I.M.S. (Associazione Italiana Calcio in Miniatura Subbuteo) fino alla seconda metà degli anni ’90, mi sono fermato per un po’ di tempo. Poi nel 2013, soprattutto grazie a internet, ho scoperto che il Subbuteo era ancora vivo e vegeto e ho così ricontattato i miei vecchi amici e ho ripreso subito a giocare.

1)Who are you, what do you do and how's your life related to Subbuteo?

I am Alessandro Lupi, 45 years old, surveyor in Rome and I am also the Technical Director of the Subbuteo Club Fonte Nuova. I'm bonded with Subbuteo since I was a kid in the eighties. After playing even at a national level with A.I.C.I.M.S. (An old Italian association about Subbuteo) till mid nineties then I stopped for a while. Especially thanks to internet, I managed to get back at it in 2013, when I realised that Subbuteo was still well alive so I decided to contact my old friends and that was it! 

2)Qual e' il tuo primo ricordo del Subbuteo? (La tua prima volta)

I miei primi ricordi di Subbuteo sono legati al salone di casa dei miei genitori, dove con mio fratello più grande di 9 anni di me e il suo gruppo di amici, iniziavo sin da piccolissimo a fare i miei primi tocchi.

2)What's your first memory about Subbuteo ? (your first time)

My first Subbuteo memories are definitely linked to my parents' house's living room where I used  to play together with my older brother (9 years older than me) and his friends. I started to do my first flicks when I was very little!

3)Quando nasce il Subbuteo Club Fonte Nuova e dove si trova precisamente?

Il Subbuteo Club Fonte Nuova nasce da un’idea del mio amico Chris Florido, maturata proprio durante il periodo del lockdown per il coronovirus, il quale, conoscendo la mia passione ed esperienza, mi ha da subito coinvolto nella nascita e organizzazione del Club. La data ufficiale di fondazione è il 15 giugno 2020. La nostra Sede si trova a Fonte Nuova, piccolo comune sulla via Nomentana, nella provincia nord-est di Roma.

3)When was the Subbuteo Club Fonte Nuova born and where is it located ?

The Subbuteo Club Fonte Nuova was born thanks to an idea of my friend Chris Florido, who had this enlightenment during the recent Corona Virus Lockdown. He knew my passion about Subbuteo so he contacted me and that's how I got involved in the creation of the Club. The official starting date was 15th June 2020. We are located  in Fonte Nuova, a small district on Via Nomentana, in the North East province of Rome.

4)Illustrate il vostro progetto spiegando inoltre eventuali costi ed info generali.

Il progetto principale del Club è quello di essere un punto di aggregazione sociale, nell’ambito di una politica di inclusione e di eliminazione dell’idea di quartiere/dormitorio, che sia di riferimento per tutti gli appassionati di Subbuteo, vecchi e nuovi, della zona nord-est di Roma e non solo.

Attualmente ci ritroviamo il lunedì sera e il venerdì sera, alle h. 21:00 circa, nei locali della Pro Loco di Fonte Nuova, sita in Piazza Federico Zeri. 

Come costi sono previsti solamente €20 annuali per l’iscrizione alla Pro Loco e una quota associativa mensile di €10.

4)Tell us more about your project also explaining more detailed info like prices,etc.

The Main Project of the Club is to be a meeting point for all the Subbuteo passionate of the North East area of Rome and more, getting rid of the idea of a district and following policies based on the concept of social integration.

At the moment, we are gathering on Monday and Friday evening around 9 pm at the Pro Loco di Fonte Nuova in Federico Zeri square. We only ask for a yearly 20 euros fee (Pro Loco membership) and a Club membership monthly fee of 10 euros.

5)Avete intenzione di partecipare ad eventi Ufficiali Subbuteo in futuro o avete gia partecipato ad alcuni ? se SI , quali ?

Essendo appena nati, non abbiamo ancora partecipato ad alcun evento ufficiale come Club. L’intenzione è però sicuramente quella di affacciarsi al di fuori della nostra Sede e integrarsi, piano piano, con le varie realtà associative nazionali e internazionali, partecipando ad eventi, tornei e quant’altro. Intanto sfrutteremo questo primo periodo per allenarci e prepararci nel migliore dei modi.

5)Do you intend to take part in Subbuteo Events in then future? Maybe playing with a representative team or so? 

We are just born so we still didn't take part in any official event as a Club. We definitely have the intention of playing outside our Club as well and step by step joining other associations, events at both national and international level. Meanwhile we are going to take advantage of this period for proper training in order to get better and better.

6)Qual e' la tua squadra preferita ? Qual e' secondo te la squadra piu' rara ?

Ovviamente ognuno di noi, all’interno del Club, ha una sua squadra preferita. La mia, in particolare, è un vecchio Manchester City, dipinto a mano su materiale originale hw. Non essendo però mai stato in particolare un grande ed esperto collezionista (ho sempre preferito l’aspetto tecnico del gioco rispetto all’aspetto collezionistico), non saprei veramente dire quali possano essere le squadre più rare.

6)What's your favourite team ? and the rarest one?

Obviously each of us has a favourite team. I personally love an old Manchester City, hand painted over original HW materials. I'm not really an expert about collecting Subbuteo so I really have no idea about which team can be the rarest. I always preferred to focus on playing the game rather than collecting its pieces.

7)Aspetti positivi e negativi dell'Universo Subbuteo?

L’aspetto positivo è sicuramente il grande fascino che resiste intatto dopo decenni e decenni.

Quello negativo, a mio avviso, è il troppo agonismo che a volte si vede negli eventi ufficiali, che arriva a sfociare anche nell’antisportività, perdendo di vista quello che dovrebbe essere sempre l’aspetto ludico del gioco.

7)Positive and Negative aspects of the Subbuteo Universe?

The positive thing about Subbuteo is its attractive power which remains untouched since ever!

The negatives are definitely the way some people approach the game. Sometimes you can see very competitive games, which is fine, but when it's too much I think people lose the sight of the reasons we all gather .... to PLAY A GAME!

8)Cosa ne pensate dei vari circuiti ed associazioni come FISCT,WASPA e Lega Nazionale Subbuteo?

Ogni realtà che aggreghi, unisca e organizzi attività per il Subbuteo, è sempre lodevole. Le molte persone coinvolte in queste realtà dedicano a ciò moltissimo tempo ed energia, e con grandissima passione.

Purtroppo a volte si creano attriti e piccole gelosie tra i diversi circuiti, creando polemiche e incomprensioni che non fanno bene alla promozione e allo sviluppo di questo gioco.

8)What do you think about FISCT,WASPA and Lega Nazionale Subbuteo circuits? 

Any association that brings people together and unite organising Subbuteo events is always very welcome! These people put a lot of their time and energies in the game showing a lot of passion too.
However sometimes you can witness some little and silly jealousy between these circuits and some misunderstanding as well which are not great for the general Subbuteo promotion.

10)Fatti una domanda e dacci una risposta !

Che possibilità ha il Subbuteo di sopravvivere, nel corso dei prossimi anni, all’avvento sempre maggiore della tecnologia?

E’ forte il rischio che, una volta che smettano di praticare Subbuteo gli attuali giocatori, quasi tutti ormai di una certa età e che giocano grazie alla passione maturata quando erano bambini, non ci sia il cosiddetto ricambio generazionale, con gli attuali bambini distratti e attratti dalle più moderne piattaforme di videogiochi elettronici. Per evitare questo sarà necessaria una forte attenzione e perseveranza nella promozione di questo gioco verso le nuove generazioni, come già hanno lodevolmente intrapreso, almeno in Italia, sia la Fisct che la Lega Nazionale Subbuteo.

10)Ask yourself a question and give us an answer!

How many chances of surviving the technology-era do you think the Subbuteo game has ,in the coming years?

The risk of missing a generational change is always high especially thinking of the time when the actual players will stop playing (Most of them have "an age").Nowadays most kids prefer to use modern platforms and videogames. It will take a strong focus on promoting Subbuteo amongst the youngster and kids, also including them in groups and clubs like it's already happening anyway, at least in Italy, also thanks to FISCT and Lega Nazionale Subbuteo!

We would like to thank Alessandro for its time and we would love to wish him all the best for this amazing new club. It's fantastic when new Subbuteo clubs pop up here and there.
