Mojica -right- and Match Winner Yerri Mina |
COLOMBIA-SENEGAL: You can tell these last matches involve a lot of counts in the pockets and fear. High defensive line for Senegal which worked pretty well in not conceding much to their opponents. Indeed the most exciting thing of the match was a penalty kick called in favour of Senegal but not conceded by the VAR at 17'. WE must say that couple of minutes before that a free kick by Juan Quintero gave some extra work to N'Diaye who pushed the ball away. Half time 0-0. Colombia found the deserved 1-0 goal with Yerri Mina at 74'! And only 2 minutes after Ospina made a complete miracle on a super powerful close range shot by Niang....what a save!(76') Surprisingly Senegal is kicked out of the World Cup! James Rodriguez got injured during the first half.
JAPAN-POLAND: A super disappointing Poland kept being disappointing. Another slow match with few chances for Japan in the first 15 minutes with Muto and Okazaki, both squandered. The biggest chance happened to Poland at 32' when the Hull City winger Grosicki directed a header towards the bottom corner but Kawashima made a great one-hand save. Despite all the keeper Fabianski have been rather focused and ready. Half time was 0-0. In the second half Poland got the lead at 59' with Jan Bednarek . 0-1 ! And with this result Japan still made it because of the Colombia's victory. Despite the same points for Senegal and Japan, the Asians made it because of the Fair Play rules (they have less yellow cards then the African). Lewandowski actually failed the 2-0 that could completely kill the Japan. Anyway Well done to the Japanese !!

PANAMA-TUNISIA: A match for the glory! Pretty closed match for almost the whole first half with Panama only trying in counter-attack but always giving the sensation that at some point they were going to make something good. Tunisia was holding the ball possession but losing themselves in the last 16 meters. It was actually Jose Luiz Rodriguez to score the second goal in the Panama's history during a world cup with a powerful shot from outside the box slightly deflected by Meriah (indeed it was more an own goal). 1-0 at 33' for the joy of the RED WAVE in the stadium. Amazing supporters. Tunisia then started to push more and more creating few chances with Ben Youssef and Khazri both squandered badly.1-0 was the first half! The second half saw an angry Tunisia ready to upset the result. Indeed they were able to score twice at 51' with Ben Youssef and at 66' with Khazri. They both finally made it after the previous mentioned chacnes. Final result 1-2!
ENGLAND-BELGIUM: many people were saying that both teams don't want to get first in the Group in order to avoid the "strong" zone of the Round of 16 but WE want to believe the teams were really honouring the competition. It looked like at least despite the great turn-over done by the teams which only put on the pitch few First team players. Huge chance for Belgium was at 13' when a Fellaini's header towards the middle of the box found Batshuayi who sent the ball to the England keeper Pickford. All of a sudden the ball was loose and Cahill cleared in the end!
An England chance came at 35' with a wide shot on the net by Trent-Alexander Arnold. 0-0 in the first half. It was Belgium to get the lead at 52' with a fantastic strike by Adnan Januzaj. Even the coach was rather surprised by his player.1-0! England kept attacking and even missing an incredible chance with Rashford who miserabily squandered it even thanks to the keeper's touch who sent the ball wide! He was all alone against Courtois. He really should have done better. At 87' great save by Pickford on a rocket shot by Dries Mertens! Huge also the chance missed by Fellaini who shot wide on the net at 90'+1'!
