First match of the day was Mexico-Brazil. So many surprising things happened in this World Cup so let's see what else it reserved to us. In the first 10 minutes Mexico definitely seemed at least more focused creating dangerous situation around Alisson but someone the Brazilian defenders managed to clear the occasions. The biggest occasions were probably for Brazil like at 25' when Neymar past Alvarez before finding Ochoa on his way. Two minutes later Coutinho had the space to shot a rocket but his attempt went over the bar. Mexico was feeling a bit under pressure and lost the initial confidence. Gabriel Jesus went very close too after dribbling few players but his shot was saved by Ochoa before the defenders cleared the ball (38'). First half finished 0-0. The second half started in the best way for Brazil which found the lead with Neymar who was ready to push in the low cross by Willian. Too easy. 0-1 ! Great chance for Paulinho too from 12 yards but his shot was saved once again by the Mexican keeper who kept his team on course. (59'). Nice counter-attack by Mexico few minutes after but Lozano's shoot was saved by Alisson in corner. Brazil kept the game in control and even managed to score the 2-0 at 88'. Fast Neymar's run towards the Mexican area, nice play assist for the coming Firmino who only had to push the ball in goal! 0-2 and Brazil will be one of the Quarter Finalists !
The other clash was between Japan and Belgium. Surprisingly the Japanese made it so far but only because of the FFP rules which condemned Senegal to be out of the competition for a bunch of yellow cards! Anyway Japan actually had a chance after only 2 minutes thanks to a Kagawa shot but it was wide and not a real danger for Courtois. Match was pretty blocked in the first 20 minutes with Belgium that tried to keep the control on the game but with a Japan always ready to try to take advantage of some space left. Lukaku was the most dangerous striker. He tried to powerfully shot on target twice but in both occasions the ball was deflected in corner. He also had a great chance at 25' but he badly impacted with the ball missing what it could have been an easy goal! Just a minute after it was Hazard to send a rocket towards Kawashima but the keeper was ready to send the ball away! Belgium was completely smashing Japan in their area. Even Kompany went close to score but his attempt became a sort of short cross in the small box with none ready to score. Japan was actually getting the lead when Osako directed a sort of shoot towards Courtois who had a very easy ball to catch but it slipped for few seconds out of his hands almost making an incredible own goal! 0-0 was the first half! You would never believe that at 47' Genki Haraguchi actually gave the 1-0 lead to Japan and one minute after Hazard missed the equaliser sending his rocket straight to the post! What a start! Guess what ? The Belgium defenders decided to look at Takashi Inui firing a shot from out of the box including Courtois that tried to save it without making it. 2-0 for JAPAN , people! This is the weirdest World Cup in history. At 61' huge chance for Lukaku to try to get back into the match but his header went wide. What a miss! Unbelievable also the way Belgium scored the 2-1! A header of Jan Vertonghen which looked like innocent it actually got in surprising everyone at 69'!! At 73' the equaliser came! Cross in the area and perfect Fellaini's header! 2-2! Double miracle by Kawashima on the two headers by Lukaku and Chadli at 86'! Such saves!! incredible FINAL RESULT ! BELGIUM MADE THE 2-3 WITH A GREAT COUNTER ATTACK , nice feint by Lukaku and easy goal by Chadli!!!!!
